♫ Music Classification based on Tempo and Pitch

چکیده

In this paper, we introduce two experiments with three groups. The first experiment the subjects are asked to place a given stimuli in a category based on pitch (first group), tempo (second group), or just listen to the stimulus (third group). Then, in the second experiment, subjects are asked to do the same categorization but now based on both dimensions (all groups). It turns out that both the tempo and neutral groups show a preference for tempo over pitch, where the pitch group favours pitch over tempo. This might be due to auditory priming, where the tempo preference of the neutral group has to do with auditory processing that emphasizes pitch intervals more than absolute pitch.

Classification of Iranian Traditional Music Dastgahs Using Features Based on Pitch Frequency

The Iranian traditional music is composed of seven majors Dastgahs: Chahargah, Homayoun, Mahour, Segah, Shour, Nava, and Rast-Panjgah. In this paper, a new algorithm for the classification of the Iranian traditional music Dastgahs based on pitch frequency is proposed. In this algorithm, the features of Lagrange coefficients of pitch logarithm (LCPL), Fuzzy similarity sets type 2 (FSST2), and th...

Automatic Music Tempo and Timbre Change Based on Pitch Detection and Image Analysis

This paper proposes a method for automatically changing musical characteristics by analyzing image features. That is, it presents an automatic music tempo and timbre changing system through piano pitch detection and image analysis. To begin with, the piano’s onset is detected, and we extract the pitch based on the onset detection. Next, we analyze the features of the image, such as hue, intensi...

Musicians are more consistent: Gestural cross-modal mappings of pitch, loudness and tempo in real-time

Cross-modal mappings of auditory stimuli reveal valuable insights into how humans make sense of sound and music. Whereas researchers have investigated cross-modal mappings of sound features varied in isolation within paradigms such as speeded classification and forced-choice matching tasks, investigations of representations of concurrently varied sound features (e.g., pitch, loudness and tempo)...

Non-uniform time-scaling of Carnatic music transients

Gamakas are an integral aspect of Carnatic Music, a form of classical music prevalent in South India. They are used in rāgas, which may be seen as melodic scales and/or a set of characteristic melodic phrases. Gamakas exhibit continuous pitch variation often spanning several semitones. In this paper, we study how gamakas scale with tempo and propose a novel approach to change the tempo of Carna...
